Cory's shearwater is a large shearwater in the seabird family Procellariidae. The genus name ''Calonectris'' comes from Ancient Greek ''kalos'', "good" and ''nectris'', "swimmer", and ''borealis'' is Latin for "northern". The English name is after the American ornithologist Charles B. Cory.
