  1. Not even a country intro, but this was the only new bird for me of the Iceland trip, so I figured I'd put it up here!
(Also, I'm now at 3000 species on eBird, which is nice:) )

    1. Whattt? You have 3,000 species of birds documented on eBird?? Congratulations! That is incredible - isn't that like nearly 30% of described, extant species? Posted 5 years ago
      1. Oh, and cool photo! I like how the one rebel is still facing you. And it looks like it's trying to convince a couple of the others not to run away either... Posted 5 years ago
      2. Haha a little bit less than that (or could be a lot less than that, according to some recent genetic studies). But yes, it's a good number :) Posted 5 years ago, modified 5 years ago
        1. As for the geese, I was lucky to get even one looking at me! They are indeed fairly skittish, since people hunt them, so I got to look at many more goose butts than I had anticipated (compared to my experiences with them in the Netherlands, for example) Posted 5 years ago
        2. True, but it's definitely incredible and exciting to think of how many more you can still add to your total. Do you choose trips based on your search for new and specific species? Where would you love to go, yet haven't yet? Posted 5 years ago
          1. I'd say it tends to be more the other way around. I'll pick a country that I'm keen to visit, for whatever reasons. Then, I'll read up on its interesting birds and birding hotspots, and from there I'll decide where I want to go within the country.
As for places I'd really like to go, especially for birding, Papua tops the list, followed by East Africa (particularly the Usambara and the Rwenzori mountains) and the Philippines.
What's at the top of your travel wishlist?

            1. I like that approach to choosing places to visit. At the very top of my dream travel list would be PNG, Congo, and Bhutan...Also, Peru and Ecuador. Oh, and Wyoming, haha. Posted 5 years ago
                1. That is so much cheaper than I imagined! We are going to Kentucky next year, but I think Wyoming is totally doable... Posted 5 years ago
                  1. Nice! Posted 5 years ago
    2. Congrats on that epic achievements, it's almost as much as ALL birds documented on JD! Posted 5 years ago
      1. Thanks Ferdy! As usual, I'm way behind on my photos, but I think I've still got a number of decent photos in my files that will be new to JD. Just need to get around to them... Posted 5 years ago
        1. No worries, we will wait! Posted 5 years ago
