Carolina Leafroller Cricket (Camptonotus carolinensis) On Smilax sp. on a wooded trail. <br />
I saw a rolled Greenbriar leaf on our hike and decided to investigate. I was startled and surprised to find a cricket within! Yes, I was so startled that I dropped the cricket! Luckily, I was able to grab a few shots!<br />

The Carolina Leafroller Cricket is the only species within the Camptonotus genus. During the day, it builds retreats in leaves by rolling them and securing them with silk spun from special glands in its mouth. It becomes active at night, and it typically preys on aphids.<br />
