Tree Kangaroo! This is a Tree Kangaroo that was for sale in the local market in Ukarumpa, Eastern Highlands, Papua New Guinea. It is a Marsupial Macropodidae, but I don't know what the Genus is. Tree Kangaroo!

This is a Tree Kangaroo that was for sale in the local market in Ukarumpa, Eastern Highlands, Papua New Guinea. It is a Marsupial Macropodidae, but I don't know what the Genus is. They are endangered, I believe, because they are being hunted out.

  3. Christine-I'm sure that they eat them although I haven't heard about it since there aren't many around here. They eat everything. They do also try to sell them for pets, but this is the first one that I have seen at the market. This one was actually the boy's pet but I guess he needed money. It bit my finger when I put my hand near its face, but not hard enough to break the skin. Posted 5 years ago

Goodfellow's tree-kangaroo also called the ornate tree-kangaroo, belongs to the family Macropodidae, which includes kangaroos, wallabies and their relatives, and the genus ''Dendrolagus'', with eleven other species. The species is native to the rainforests of New Guinea, and the border of central Irian Jaya in Indonesia. Under the IUCN classification, the species is listed as Endangered, which is a result of overhunting and human encroachment on their habitat. It is named after British zoological.. more
