Jewelled chameleon - overtaking, Pyreras Reserve, Madagascar
After lots of driving to make way from Ranomafana to Andasibe, we came by this almost mandatory stop: Pyreras.
Pyreras is a small private reserve (zoo) that gives close access to a wide array of remarkable Madagascar reptiles, frogs and other animals, including some you will unlikely find in the wild.
This chameleon species can be recognized by the 3 lateral stripes across the body, alternated with numerous small bright-coloured spots. The top of the head typically has additional spot-like decorations in another color. Coloring is variable. If I remember correctly, the bright one is the female.

''Furcifer campani'', commonly known as Campan's chameleon, the jeweled chameleon, or the Madagascar forest chameleon, is a species of lizard in the family Chamaeleonidae. ''Furcifer campani'' is endemic to the central highlands of Madagascar, where it is threatened by bush fires and habitat loss.
