
Wild Chives - Allium schoenoprasum
Clusters of purple, globular flowers subtended by papery bracts atop tall, thin stems. Thin, green leaves that look like blades of grass. They were in various stages - some were old and dry, while others (like this one) were just starting to bloom.
This plant easily escapes gardens.

Chives is the common name of "Allium schoenoprasum", the smallest species of the edible onions. A perennial plant, it is native to Europe, Asia and North America. "A. schoenoprasum" is the only species of "Allium" native to both the New and the Old Worlds.
