
King Stropharia - Stropharia rugosoannulata
These usually have deep reddish brown caps, purple-gray gills, and a white stem with a thick, cogwheeled ring. Interestingly, Stropharia rugosoannulata is a nematophagous fungus, which means that it is able to trap and digest nematodes.
This particular individual was pretty dry and not as vibrant as usual.
Habitat: Growing in wood chips on a nature trail and along the edges of the woods (mixed forest)

Stropharia rugosoannulata is an agaric of the family Strophariaceae found in Europe and North America, and introduced to Australia and New Zealand.
