  1. Cool moth, Ernst! Do you think there's a chance it could be Dasypodia cymatodes? Both species are so similar, and I can't tell if your moth has heavily patterned wings or not. Did you see the underside of the wings?

  2. Christine , i have looked at many images and i still don’t know. I will upload a photo of the underside it might help you to work it out .Please
    The pattern on the underside is different in both D.cymatodes and D. selenophora

    1. Hmm, I just saw your photo of the underside and am a bit stumped. You're right - it looks different from both species. I'm really not sure if it even is one of those two species now. Another difference I noticed on the uppersurface of the wings is the eyespots: on your moth, the dark center spots of the eyespots don't touch the circular margins, but they do touch the margins in both D.cymatodes and D. selenophora. You may want to consider posting these images in a Facebook group that specializes in moths. Posted 5 years ago

The Southern Old Lady Moth or Southern Old Lady is a moth of the Noctuidae family. It is found in the southern half of Australia, as well as Norfolk Island, New Zealand and Macquarie Island. The wingspan is about 90 mm. The larvae feed on "Acacia" species.
