Maltagorea ornata, Ranomafana, Madagascar Large and quite spectacular in my opinion. I&#039;m thinking it may be Syntherata or specifically Syntherata janetta. Syntherata janetta is known to be quite variable yet I still have not found any individual looking close to the pattern on the photo. Worse, Syntherata is an Australian genus. It&#039;s very well possible I&#039;m not even looking in the right genus.<br />

UPDATE: It looks like I was way off. Genus is probably Maltagorea, a true Madagascar genus. Africa,LepiLED,Madagascar,Madagascar 2019,Maltagorea ornata,Ranomafana National Park,World Click/tap to enlarge PromotedSpecies introCountry intro

  2. These past few moths make me wonder why you were so disappointed with your Madagascar mothing. :P ;) Posted 5 years ago
    1. Well, this little batch of 5 or so has a few beautiful ones in a row, so that skews the perception. The other thing is that there were at least 25 times less moths on the cloth :) Posted 5 years ago
      1. It must be hard to go from the numbers and diversity of Colombia to dry season mothing in Madagascar. I haven't seen more than a moth or two per night for weeks now. And, they are usually the same old species that I have seen all summer. We will just have to anticipate next year <3. Posted 5 years ago
