Life habit: lichenized (mutualistic with algal photobionts) thallus: fruticose (fruticous), shrub-like, beard-like. Upper surface: yellowish-green, greenish-white, yellow-white (ivory, off-white, cream-colored). Marginal and upper surface-specific structures: absent. Morphological substructures (eg areoles, lobes, branches) upper surface: smooth, plane, Ascomata: absent. Secondary metabolites: present, protolichesterinic acid, usnic acid.
