Madagascar day gecko Our first encounter with the Madagascar day gecko, spotted on the leaf roof of our lodge. You will find these friendly green reptiles on and inside almost every house. During my first wildlife travel back in 2007, they freaked me out. Now they're friends. We curiously stare at each other. It did take us two weeks in Madagascar to find out that the high squeeky sound that we kept hearing was in fact coming from this gecko. It has a sound you don't expect from it. 1. I can't figure out where this reserve is in Madagascar. Do you mean "Reserve Peyrieras", between Tana and Andasibe? If so, and assuming this is a local wild lizard, I believe it is in fact Phelsuma madagascariensis. Before that species was split into three in <http://sysbio.oxfordjournals.org/content/56/6/907.full.pdf>, this would have been considered P. m. boehmi, but the authors of that paper concluded that the distinctions between "P. m. boehmi" and "P. m. madagascariensis" were just individual variation. 1. Sorry, the GPS in my camera is hit and miss. This is indeed Reserve Peyrieras, which is more like a small zoo, not really wild. Posted 9 years ago
