Red-bellied Lemur - couple, Ranomafana, Madagascar This diurnal lemur has a relatively large distribution that spans most of the east of Madagascar, yet is still vulnerable due to the rain forests falling apart into tiny, fragmented patches.

We found this couple (they are monogamous) in the secondary forest of Ranomafana, where they are common to see. The couple seemed to be taking turns grooming each other. Male and female look somewhat similar yet males have a more exaggerated white "teardrop".
The red-bellied lemur (Eulemur rubriventer) is a medium sized strepsirrhine primate with a luxuriant chestnut brown coat. This lemur is endemic to eastern Madagascan rainforests and is distinguished by patches of white skin below the eyes, giving rise to a "teardrop" effect, particularly conspicuous in the male.
