Another day, another Coua. The Coquerel's coua is a mid-sized ground dwelling bird found in Madagascar. In terms of patterns and colors, it looks highly similar to the Giant Coua which we found a day earlier:
Key differences are in size, the Giant Coua is about 50% taller and up to twice the weight of a Coquerel's coua. If size is not obvious from a photo, the more useful difference is found in the bill. The Giant Coua has a robust, stout bill, whilst the Coquerel's coua has a thinner bill.

The Coquerel's coua is a species of cuckoo in the Cuculidae family. It is endemic to Madagascar. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry forests. It was named by Grandidier in honor of Charles Coquerel.
