      I got to the genus via one of your observations:
      Leaf Spot - Phyllosticta kalmicola Leaf spot is caused by the fungus Phyllosticta kalmicola. It is characterized by irregular, silvery spots with reddish borders. The black specks are the fruiting bodies (pycnidia) of the fungus. All the mountain laurels (Kalmia latifolia) that I passed while hiking were afflicted by this fungus. <br />
