Malagasy Kingfisher, Kirindy Reserve, Madagascar
An endemic but common bird found throughout Madagascar, here found in Kirindy. Surely during the most challenging part of the year as even the Kirindy river where we found it (after which the reserve is named), was very shallow. Can't imagine too much fish in it.

The Malagasy kingfisher or Madagascar kingfisher is a species of bird in the family Alcedinidae that is found in Madagascar, and Mayotte. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical mangrove forests. It is closely related to the malachite kingfisher which is widely distributed in mainland Africa.

At least to a dutch person it looks quite plain, it looks exactly like our "Ijsvogel" (common Kingfisher).
