      It is, although it is comparatively dull compared to kingfishers found in Asia and the Neotropics:

      At least to a dutch person it looks quite plain, it looks exactly like our "Ijsvogel" (common Kingfisher).

        True...but, in CT we only have the belted kingfisher, which I have never seen; and, it is a plain gray, brown, and white bird. Posted 6 years ago

    I'm a huge fan of bird groups with disproportionately large heads (chickadees, puffbirds), and this is the roundest kingfisher I've seen! Love it. Posted 6 years ago

The Malagasy kingfisher

The Malagasy kingfisher or Madagascar kingfisher is a species of bird in the family Alcedinidae that is found in Madagascar, and Mayotte. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical mangrove forests. It is closely related to the malachite kingfisher which is widely distributed in mainland Africa.
