Herb Robert - Geranium robertianum
Pink flowers with 5 petals. Leaves are palmately divided into 3-5 lobed segments.
Freshly picked, crushed leaves have a strong odor that resembles burning tires. If they are rubbed on the body, the smell is said to repel mosquitoes. I suspect that the smell would repel just about any creature. The active ingredients are tannins, a bitter compound called geraniin, and essential oils.

"Geranium robertianum", commonly known as Herb Robert, Red Robin, Death come quickly, Storksbill, Dove's Foot, Crow's Foot, or Robert Geranium, is a common species of cranesbill in Europe, Asia, North America, and North Africa.

I think the reflections are caused by the structure and shape of the cells and the spaces between them, combined with how they absorb and reflect light waves. It probably enhances the attractiveness of the flower to pollinators. Posted 6 years ago
