      1. Actually, that was the first specie to pop into my head. Yet upon looking closer I do see significant differences. Possibly it's another type of chaffinch. Posted 12 years ago

  2. Wow, what a marvellous shot of a small bird! I especially like the red in the photo: the bird and this intersection with little leaves or sych in it. A powerful elegant balanced yet simple way to draw ones eye to it. Well shot! Posted 12 years ago

The common chaffinch is a common and widespread small passerine bird in the finch family. The male is brightly coloured with a blue-grey cap and rust-red underparts. The female is much duller in colouring, but both sexes have two contrasting white wing bars and white sides to the tail.
