Megalotomus quinquespinosus Megalotomus quinquespinosus mating pair on a Goldenrod (Solidago sp.) plant. This species is reported to feed on leguminous plants including lupine (Lupinus). There is a dense patch of Lupinus polyphyllus about 100 feet from where these bugs were seen. Megalotomus quinquespinosus and other Alydidae have also been reported to feed occasionally on carrion.   3. Yes, Alydidae for sure and I think Christine is probably spot-on with Megalotomus quinquespinosus - there seems to be no body double for this one :o) Posted 6 years ago

    It does look like the Megalotomus quinquespinosus at Bug Guide. Interesting that this species feeds on legumes such as Lupinus which is extremely abundant along my driveway. So maybe I should look through them for more of these bugs?
