Get too close, a puff of wind, and you may be in for months of pain and discomfort. Treat ALL hairy caterpillars with respect as the hairs are not just for show.<br />

  1. That's a gorgeous (and spiky) cat! Posted 6 years ago
  2. Certainly the most colourful and exotic cat I have photographed.

I am always wary of hairy cats since I was a young boy in Anglesey. I found huge cats on the maram grass and decided to take them home. With no bag, I carried them in my hands. It was a school field trip with several hours of walking. Within an hour I had to let go of the cats, my hands had swollen so severely I could bot even get them in my pockets!

I have researched setora nitens, and it is a real nasty, so glad I kept my distance.

    1. Eek, wow! An experience like that would definitely be memorable.

I am very wary of hairy caterpillars and only handle woolly bears, and even those make my hands itchy.
