    1. Mostly by the cheer size of it - with 10-13mm it is much larger than our other species - but also the rest fits the bill, such as the ringed legs, morphology of the palps etc.
      This was just a quick snapshot while trying to get some moths in ;o) I should have better images of this species - thought I'd have one here already ... but no ... some other time...

      1. Awesome! It looks correct to me, I was just curious because in the U.S., some Culiseta species are very similar to Culex. So, we have to check for "hairs in their armpits", ie. bristles at the base of subcostal wing vein to make sure that it's Culiseta...And, knowing you are a details person, I had a remote hope that you had photographed these bristles. Just as an fyi, figure 31 in this key shows the bristles that I'm referring to:
