Calledapteryx dryopterata (Brown Scoopwing) This is the third season in a row that I have seen this moth here. The next nearest reported location based on MPG and BAMONA is in the area near Madison, Wisconsin about 300 miles to the southeast. The larval hosts are said to be Blackhaw and Possumhaw (Viburnum prunifolium and Viburnum nudum) but these do not grow here. Instead, Nannyberry (Viburnum lentago) does and presumably the larvae of Calledapteryx dryopterata feed on it. A few days ago I did an adult Calledapteryx dryopterata resting on a Viburnum lentago bush. I guess it may have been looking for a place to lay eggs.
