  1. AMAZING!! Posted one year ago
    1. Thanks! This was a male guarding a nest so he was in full color. I used my seine to cover his nest while I photographed him, so nothing got to his offspring. I went back to the same spot the next day, and he was doing his thing like nothing happened Posted one year ago

  3. From today's Facebook post:

Isn’t this fish gorgeous!? Here’s what Zach Alley wrote about it on the Midwest Biodiversity Institute’s website:

“The Pumpkinseed Sunfish (Lepomis gibbosus) is a member of the sunfish family Centrarchidae, and is a frequently encountered species in many of our survey sites around the Chicago area. These fish are wetland associated, so we most commonly see them around areas of low gradient with dense vegetation. Certain sections of streams like the Des Plaines River are great places to find these beauties! Fun fact: The Pumpkinseed Sunfish has a range that extends further North than any other species of Lepomis!”

    1. Zach...did you write that post on their website? If yes, I'll credit it to you. The post said "by: Zach Alley", but I wasn't sure if they were referring to the photo or what was written as well. Posted one year ago
