    1. This one and Conservula anodonta were both surprises for me. Never saw either of them here before. I've got a whole bunch of little moths to figure out as well. Posted 6 years ago
      1. It reminds me of those vintage velvet coats with the huge fur collars. Moth week is just getting started and you already have so many awesome finds! I can't wait to see what else comes to your light this week. Posted 6 years ago
        1. I'll be out again tonight but maybe not as late. Each time I was ready to call it quits last night a new moth would show up. Will be using bait tomorrow (ripe banana, peach, molasses, and beer).

That is velvety moth all right. I couldn't figure out what it was (too lazy to get my moth books out of my car. I read them while I'm out camping) and searched for "moth that looks like a broken twig" and came up with these two species: Phalera bucephala and Admetovis similar. I stumbled across the correct id.

          1. Nice! Perfect description, "moth that looks like a broken twig"! How did the bait work out for you? Posted 6 years ago
            1. I'll be using the bait tonight. I plan to spread it on a small board and then set that aside in a darker area on my porch. If anything shows up I'll move it closer to the light. Haven't had many cutworm or dart moths (and they don't stay still or they fly up about 10 feet over my head) yet but supposedly this bait mixture should attract them and others. Posted 6 years ago

The wingspan is about 42 mm. There is one generation per year.

The larvae feed on ''Malus'', ''Quercus'', ''Betula'' and ''Salix'' species. Young larvae skeletonise the leaves of their host plant. Later, they feed on all of the leaf except the leaf stalk. They feed.. more
