Dark Red Underwing - Catocala ultronia
Medium-sized moth with gray-brown coloring. There is a dark brown subapical patch along inner margin. Hindwings are orange-red with black bands.
Habitat: Resting on the tread for my screen door. I nearly squished it! Attracted to a light in a rural area
The Dark Red Underwing or Ultronia Underwing is a moth of the Erebidae family. It is found in most of eastern North America, south to Florida and Texas. It ranges west across the southern parts of Canada to extreme southeast British Columbia.
