Four-spotted Owlfly (Ululodes quadripunctatus)

At a UV light setup (365nm) at the edge of a dense mixed forest.

My first owlfly caught on camera! This one was quite content to bask in the UV light this morning!

  I was so excited! This was on my life list for sure!
  
  I've only seen one other owlfly in the wild, and it was when I was in the middle of mowing down my meadow at the old place a couple of weeks ago. No camera with me, and I was destroying its habitat. T_T It was awful. Posted 6 years ago

      It was very sad. I tried to mow from a central point out. I saw lots of field mice, rabbits, and other critters fleeing--and it broke my heart. I was upset for a couple of days after that. T_T
