Beaver meadow and shallow marsh
A beaver meadow and shallow marsh developing in what was once a large beaver pond. Major vegetation components are Beaked Sedge (Carex utriculata) and Canada Bluejoint Grass (Calamagrostis canadensis). Large boulders and bedrock exposures dot the marsh.
The entire wetland complex is in two parts and both have been modified by beaver dams. This is the lower part and is 1.72 acres (0.7 hectares). The upper part which begins where the trees seem to be indented is larger at 3.74 acres (1.51 hectares). A small stream with its source in a black spruce swamp is the primary source of water. Beavers have probably not occupied either part since sometime between 2011 and 2013 but the dams remain and hold back enough water to maintain small shallow ponds.
