These maze-like mines are created by the Leaf Miner Moth (Phyllocnicstis insignis), which mine the leaves of the Senecioneae tribe.

    1. I did NOT check (had the dog with me and had to get a quick shot), but I assume that there were some. The entire plant was covered! Posted 6 years ago

"Phyllocnistis insignis" is a moth of the family Gracillariidae, found throughout the United States. The hostplants for the species include "Arnoglossum muehlenbergii", "Erechtites hieracifolia", "Prenanthes alba", and "Senecio aureus". They mine the leaves of their host plant. The mine has the form of a long, narrow, linear, winding mine on the upperside of the leaf.
