Tui
A medium-sized bird. They look black from a distance and when like here, in dense shrubbery...but do in fact have a blue, green and bronze iridescent sheen, and distinctive white throat tufts.
I loved their vocalisations, which I would describe as being like coughs and wheezes!
30 cm length
The tui is an endemic passerine bird of New Zealand. It is one of the largest members of the diverse honeyeater family. The name "tui" is from the Māori name "tūī" and is the species' formal common name.
