Spear Thistle early growth - leaf closeup, Heeswijk-Dinther, Netherlands
Early growth in April of this Spear Thistle, also known as Bull Thistle or Black Thistle. One of my favorite flowers as it is an extremely productive nectar provider, as well as a host plant for several butterflies. A few months from now, this plant likely will be around 1.5m tall. When blooming, it will constantly be attended by lots of insects, so an easy "score" for me.

''Cirsium vulgare'' is a species of the genus ''Cirsium'', native throughout most of Europe, western Asia, and northwestern Africa. It is also naturalised in North America and Australia and is as an invasive weed in some areas.
