  1. Cool! Thought on its diet? Does it include moths? Posted 6 years ago
    1. I'm not sure. I only know that larvae feed on rotting wood.
Also, this was a rather large beetle if you couldn't tell! At first glance, I thought it was a giant cockroach.

    2. If I had to guess, I would say no to the moths. Probably something herbaceous? Posted 6 years ago
      1. Ohhh, so nice!!

I believe the adults feed on sap and rotting fruits, but I'm not sure what else. Interestingly, the larvae eat wood with fungus in it. The fungi then provide enzymes that help the larvae digest the cellulose in the wood. Cool, right? Another fun fact - the adults squeak by rubbing their chin against their thorax.

''Orthosoma brunneum'' is a species of beetle in the family Cerambycidae, the only species in the genus ''Orthosoma''. The genus name ''Orthosoma'' was also used for a microsporidian genus. As it is pre-occupied by this beetle genus name, it has been changed to ''Orthosomella''.
