  1. While I'm randomly digging things up from the US, I thought I'd upload this, mostly for the associated video!
    It's always interested to see swallows on the ground, and I loved the way they held their wings up like butterflies, while they were gathering mud for their nests (and a couple enterprising males took their chance at some lovemaking too...)

The American Cliff Swallow is a member of the passerine bird family Hirundinidae — the swallows and martins. It breeds in North America and is migratory, wintering in western South America from Venezuela southwards to northeast Argentina. This species is a very rare vagrant to western Europe.
