
Lovebug (Female) - Bibio femoratus
TL: ~8 mm. Shiny black with dense yellow hair and red femora.
They are called lovebugs because they have a synchronous emergence in the spring and they form large mating swarms where males and females stay attached for a long time.
Habitat: Streamside

"Bibio femoratus" is commonly known as the March fly. "Bibio femoratus" is one of at least 90 types of March flies, which occur in the United States and Canada. In the southeastern United States, especially around the Gulf Coast, "Bibio femoratus" is known as the lovebug.
