Ephemeral Stream in a Sugar Maple Forest
An ephemeral stream in an old-growth Sugar Maple forest. This stream only flows after spring thaw and when there has been some rain for a few days. The bed is lined with cobbles and boulders freed from the soil. There is a substantial amount of coarse woody debris and leaves. The most common plants in this stream are ferns (Phegopteris connectilis and Matteucia struthiopteris).
