  1. Of course, the absolute avian highlight of my visit to Taiwan, one of the island's two species of endemic pheasants! (Unfortunately, I did not manage to see the other one. That will be for next trip!)
    Plus, I was the last bird that i saw when coming down the mountain, which was a nice touch.

Swinhoe's pheasant, also known as the Taiwan blue pheasant, is a bird of the pheasant subfamily in the fowl family Phasianidae. It is endemic to Taiwan. Along with the Mikado pheasant and Taiwan blue magpie, two other Taiwan endemics, the Swinhoe's pheasant is sometimes considered an unofficial national symbol for Taiwan as it bears the colours of the national flag .
