Metallic Casebearer - Coleophora mayrella TL: ~6-8 mm. Metallic, bronzy greenish FW wth a red sheen near the apex. It was tiny and so gorgeous!! Antennae are white-tipped and thick at the base. Host: Clover

Habitat: Attracted to a light in a semi-rural area.

*Note: I said this last year too, but can't help but repeat it this year....My deck faces a farm, which means that I get a lot of dirt blown in my direction, hence the dirty photos. They would look so much prettier clean, but I have no intention of cleaning the outside of my house every week. And, I am too lazy to put up a sheet each night. So, enjoy the dirty photos. They are natural ;P. Coleophora mayrella,Geotagged,Spring,United States, coleophora, coleophora mayrella, moth Click/tap to enlarge PromotedSpecies introCountry intro

  1. Think I've seen this moth here before but the lighting was not very good.

I am going to wash the glass on my screen door though. It's a mess. I've also started taping a sheet of white paper to the inside of the glass to help me focus better on the moths.

    1. This was a first for me! It was so tiny, but looked like a little, sparkling gem.

I'm going to wash my glass too. The paper is a good idea! I have found that even when I use a sheet, there are more moths hiding in nooks around the deck, rather than on the sheet. They are little rebels, haha. But, a good rainstorm will help wash off the dirt. I actually cleaned the outside yesterday, and woke up this morning to the sounds of farm equipment. They left some fields empty this year, so they really kick up the dirt when it's windy and when the tractors cut through the empty fields. I don't really mind though. I'd rather live across from an organic farm than random buildings or a superstore.

  3. At macro level, anything is dirty. I didn't even notice the dirt :)

Beautiful moth and you really nailed focus and exposure, well done!
