Tumaco seedeater - perched, Tumaco, Colombia The moment our guide Manuel spotted this bird in his binoculars, he went into crazy excitement mode, pushing me around, pointing, and whispering "hurry hurry hurry". I was as always completely oblivious to what makes this an important observation.

From my notes, the Tumaco seedeater is is a hybrid species of the Chestnut-throated seedeater and the Ruddy-breasted seedeater. As the name suggests, the Tumaco seedeater hybrid concerns a tiny, isolated population.

The throat patch indicates this to be a male in the breeding season.
