    1. Yup, looks like a rainbow lorikeet to me. Posted 6 years ago
      1. Thanks! I never know how to tell those 3 apart, at least not from this image. Posted 6 years ago
        1. The red-collared lorikeet is easy, as it has a clear collar, which is actually more orange, where this species has the lemon green ear patch. And the coconut lorikeet doesn't occur in Australia. Posted 6 years ago
          1. Hmmm and it looks like the info we have for the coconut lorikeet is not up to date, I imagine it came from a previous version of the wiki page. Though in fairness, it is confusing, as not all authorities agree regarding the split of the rainbow lorikeet...
Besides, I think all of JD's photos which are marked as coconut lorikeets are likely rainbow lorikeets, since every photo was taken either in Australia or places where they are escapes, not a single one from Papua or the Moluccas, which is where the coconut lorikeet (as currently defined) occurs.

            1. What is out of date exactly? Anything I need to do? Posted 6 years ago
              1. See the current wiki entry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coconut_lorikeet

In fact, it looks like what JD has was the entry for the rainbow lorikeet prior to the split, since the text in the appearance, status, etc sections mention rainbow and not coconut lorikeet!

                1. Hmmm, may I ask you to edit it? You'd probably spent more time explaining it to me than doing it yourself :) Posted 6 years ago

The rainbow lorikeet is a species of parrot found in Australia. It is common along the eastern seaboard, from northern Queensland to South Australia. Its habitat is rainforest, coastal bush and woodland areas. Several taxa traditionally listed as subspecies of the rainbow lorikeet are now treated as separate species.
