A beautiful woodpecker found only in the far SouthWest of Colombia and Northwestern Ecuador. Near-threatened. It's not a shy bird, it forages in the open and is not quick to flee. Other than by call, it can be found by its drums, which consists of 5 rapid taps.

The Guayaquil woodpecker is a species of bird in the family Picidae. It is found in southern Colombia, Ecuador and northern Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests and subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. It is threatened by habitat loss.
