      Haha well in fairness, there are a lot of laughingthrushes, so the taxonomists must be running out of names. And the alternative, Formosan laughingthrush, is a bit misleading since there are 2 others that are endemic to Taiwan as well.
      Anyway, this was a delightful encounter, as there were a group of these guys that hung out by a little mountain (around 2600 masl) and were very accustomed to people. This one actually hopped onto the bench next to me and ate a few almonds from my hands!       Posted 6 years ago, modified 6 years ago

      No doubt! I've had that experience before with great tits at a camp site in Corsica, and motmots at a restaurant on Tobago.
      But what I'd really like is to see grey/Canada jays, where apparently the whole species is basically like that!       Posted 6 years ago

The white-whiskered laughingthrush or Formosan laughing thrush is a species of bird in the family Leiothrichidae. It is endemic to montane forests of the island of Taiwan.
