Golden-headed quetzal, Rio Ñambi, Colombia
This the female, the male has a golden-toned head after which the species is named, whilst females have duller brown to grey heads as seen here. Based on location, this is likely the auriceps subspecies.
It is described as a very calm bird that sits motionless for long periods and only rarely calls. From our limited experience on this trip we can confirm that both quetzals we found are like statues, they don't move or flee easily.

The golden-headed quetzal '' is a strikingly coloured bird in the genus ''Pharomachrus''; it is also referred to as ''Trogon auriceps''. It is found in moist mid-elevation forests from eastern Panama to northern Bolivia.
