Leaf spot is caused by the fungus Phyllosticta kalmicola. It is characterized by irregular, silvery spots with reddish borders. The black specks are the fruiting bodies (pycnidia) of the fungus.
Habitat: Mountain laurel (Kalmia latifolia)

Phyllosticta kalmicola is a common, yet significant plant pathogen in the family Botryosphaeriaceae.
