  1. Nice find! Do you know their local conservation status? Posted 6 years ago
    1. They are plentiful enough that catching them is allowed - you can take up to 10 lbs/day, so I'd say it doesn't sound like there's any problems with their population numbers... There is a season - you can only fish for them May-October. They breed in the winter, so that season is closed. Posted 6 years ago

        1. I don't think these guys are ever going to be in trouble... apparently in your area (and around Europe) theses are bad guys... they appear to be a very robust invasive species. http://cphpost.dk/news/killer-crayfish-found-in-denmarks-longest-river.html Posted 6 years ago
          1. Well, don't underestimate how awesome us dutch are in exploiting every inch of our country. Seriously though, not sure what the status is here, I don't live near one of the rivers, I've never seen one here. Posted 6 years ago

The signal crayfish is a North American species of crayfish. It was introduced to Europe in the 1960s to supplement the Scandinavian ''Astacus astacus'' fisheries, which were being damaged by crayfish plague, but the imports turned out to be a carrier of that disease. The signal crayfish is now considered an invasive species across Europe, Japan, and California ousting native species there.
