A Contorted Contorta! I would like to take credit for this natural “sculpture” but I can’t. Pinus contorta ssp. contorta did it all by itself. Here on the west coast it is known as Shorepine while the Lodgepole Pine in the interior is a different subspecies. ''Pinus contorta'', with the common names Lodgepole pine and Shore pine, and also known as twisted pine, and contorta pine, is a common tree in western North America. Like all pines , it is an evergreen conifer.
