Ceramic Parchment - Xylobolus frustulatus I can never resist taking photos of this fungus! It's just so delightfully odd.

Ceramic Parchment is a saprobic fungus, which I spotted growing densely and gregariously on a rotting log in patches of adjacent frustules. The individual fruiting bodies were irregularly shaped, resupinate, and were approximately 3-5mm in size.
1. Thanks! They look like teeth, don't they. Sort of, maybe? Posted 6 years ago
1. They totally do, like big cartoony teeth :) Posted 6 years ago
1. And, sometimes they look like big, cartoony, rotting teeth:

1. That'll do, Christine. Enough about teeth already. Posted 6 years ago
1. No more teeth talk, after I tell you some teeth jokes, though:

Ferdy has 25 candy bars. He eats 16. What does Ferdy have now?
............Cavities.

At what time do people go to the dentist?
.............At tooth-hurty.

Okay, we can stop talking about teeth now.

1. Except...I have one more joke that nearly kept me awake last night:

Dentist: "Ferdy, what kind of filling would you like in your cavity?"
Ferdy: "Chocolate."

Okay, done.

1. Of course you wouldn't. You almost awakened the inner troll in me, a point of no return, but got saved by that last joke, which is pretty good :) Posted 6 years ago
1. Eek, glad the troll retreated thanks to that last joke, which is DEFINITELY a funny one. Posted 6 years ago

''Xylobolus frustulatus'', commonly known as the ceramic fungus or ceramic parchment, is an inedible species of crust fungus in the Stereaceae family. The fruit body forms small, hard, flat crust-like aggregations that resemble broken pieces of ceramic tile.
