Lilioceris faldermanni
Behind this photo is a pretty interesting story. A few days ago, I took a photo of a pair of Scarlett Lilly Beetles on a leave of Fritillaria pontica, but when I published it in the Facebook “Insect group”, my friends noticed that one of the beetles has reddish legs and that it is another species, probably Lilioceris faldermanni (L.lilii has black legs and black had).
The question is that this species was endemic to Caucasus, but recently has been recorded in Turkey and Greece and just nowadays in South Bulgaria. Notably it turned out that this was only the 4rth record of it in Bulgaria and never in that place. Furthermore, the specialists told me, that it has never been reported to feed on leaves of Fritillaria sp. Unfortunately, I did not have another photo of it…
Therefore, at my friends' request, yesterday I jumped into the car, driving 180 km to the place, found the flowers and the beetle, took a few pictures and took a sample to give to entomologists for a survey.
Very cute nice creature, about 6-7 mm long.
