    1. Well put :) Posted 6 years ago
  4. I would say it is Ormetica collateralis, described from Colombia (as Automolis collateralis) in 1901, without further locality data, and illustrated here (fig. 6): https://archive.org/stream/catalogueoflepid13brit#page/n178/mode/2up

    1. Welcome to JungleDragon, and thanks so much for the ID challenge. That's a wonderful plate book and some impressive detective work!

I still have a question though: how can one tell apart Ormetica ataenia and Ormetica collateralis?
      Posted 6 years ago
      1. well, I'm not a specialist myself. I just checked museum specimens available here http://v3.boldsystems.org/index.php/Taxbrowser_Taxonpage?taxon=Ormetica&searchTax=
and found O ataenia rather different. I then checked for other Ormetica species here
        http://ftp.funet.fi/pub/sci/bio/life/insecta/lepidoptera/ditrysia/noctuoidea/arctiidae/arctiinae/ormetica/
and found an illustration of collateralis that fits your moth rather well, and voilà. There is hardly anything else I can say

        1. Thanks, you have me convinced and I have changed the ID. Posted 6 years ago
    2. By the way, should you be interested at having a go at some more, I'm maintaining this list:

The ones in the list that do not have an asterix (*) in the title, are not yet identified to the species level. Of course can't ask you do process all of that, but should you find it a fun activity, I just wanted to point out where it is :)

      1. Thanks fchristant. I am going through your album right now, and will spend several joyful days on it, for sure. I'll be posting whatever ids I have. Your photos are gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.

        1. Oh wow, that is so nice of you. Take your time for it, the list isn't going anywhere. I'm currently sharing the last out of 5 nights during that trip, so in a few days the list is complete. For that trip that is, there will hopefully come more in the future :) Posted 6 years ago
        2. By the way, please do call me Ferdy :) Posted 6 years ago
          1. Great, Ferdy. Maybe on day we can go mothing together in Colombia. Posted 6 years ago
            1. We attended Colombia for 3 years in a row. This year will be Madagascar, next year if all goes well Ecuador. After that...know that Colombia is our favorite wildlife destination and we will return if we can. So with patience...perhaps we will, Rodrigo :) Posted 6 years ago
              1. Excellent!!
