  2. No Fear!
A tarantula bite is no worse than a bee sting in terms of toxicity. Rarely attacks something so large as humans. Ladies live up to 30 yrs in the wild, males 5-10 if they're lucky.
Some of us, arachnophobes, are afraid by even the smallest of spiders....I used to chase them in AZ, with my camera of course.

    1. Really cool of you to share these facts. On a side note, it would be interesting to see the photography of such a brilliant artist like you :) Posted 14 years ago
  3. Gee, I did not know that fact. I am glad I do, so if ever I am in this siutation I'll only be medium scared. They are certainly impressive on the size scale compared to all west european spiders.. Posted 13 years ago

The Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula, also known as the Striped-knee Tarantula , inhabits most of western Costa Rica, as well as other parts of Central America, such as Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. It is black with white stripes near the joint. Specimens from Nicaragua are tan-coloured.

Zebra tarantulas are deep-burrowing spiders. They live in open semi-arid grasslands in Costa Rica, and are found in large aggregations. The deep burrows keep the temperature below the highest daytime.. more
