The ferruginous duck, also ferruginous pochard is a medium-sized diving duck from Eurasia. The scientific name is derived from Greek '' aithuia'' an unidentified seabird mentioned by authors including Hesychius and Aristotle, and ''nyrok'', the Russian name for a duck.
