The ferruginous duck, also ferruginous pochard is a medium-sized diving duck from Eurasia. The scientific name is derived from Greek " aithuia" an unidentified seabird mentioned by authors including Hesychius and Aristotle, and "nyrok", the Russian name for a duck.
