Northern Alligator Lizard - Los Angeles, California
Having failed to find any native local freshwater diversity in the streams around Los Angeles (mosquitofish were pretty common sadly), I decided to start paying a bit more attention to what was moving about on land, and came up with this big fella! It was a chilly morning, and this lizard hadn't warmed up yet so he was extremely docile and easy to handle. He had a go at me after he warmed up a bit, but that just told me he was tired of the photo session and I promptly released him back to his log he called home before I mozzied along.

The northern alligator lizard is a medium-sized lizard that occurs on the North American west coast.
