Salmon gum mushroom - Phlebopus marginatus
It is a wow factor mushroom when you first see them. The biggest I found today was almost 40 Cm in dia with a stem of about 10 cm in dia. Growing along a track in mixed eucalyptus tree forest. The mushrooms were full of little fly larvae.
"'Phlebopus marginatus'', known as the salmon gum mushroom in Western Australia, is a member of the Boletales or pored fungi and possibly Australia's largest terrestrial mushroom with the weight of one specimen from Victoria recorded at 29 kg . It is an imposing sight in forests of southeastern and southwestern Australia.
